DUET

• -  Begin with ballet- slow, peaceful, delicate- - someone ‘dressed’ as a butterfly
• -  Butterflies are a creature of 'transformation'
• -  Contemporary dance/movements  
• -  Coming out/self acceptance metaphor 

  

SYNOPSIS 

We focus almost entirely on actor 1, they are the doing movements and dance. Slow. Dressed/makeup like a butterfly. A voice-over monologue from actor 2 runs over whole dance- it's about coming out.  The dance becomes more frenzied and agitated as the film, and monologue, progresses. The climax is reached when actor 1 takes their wings off, throwing them to floor and actor 2 reaches an angered breaking point. A pause. Actor 1 picks up their wings. Actor 2 takes an audible breath. Then

We end with a cut to actor 2. This is the ‘real world’. They take a breath. Some dialogue- the resolution to the climax- something along the lines of ‘Mum I’m-’. End of film.  

3 ACT STRUCTURE 

Start with monologue. The dance begins.

Dance becomes more frenzied. Monologue becomes more intense. Breaking point reached.

End with the reality. The Coming Out. The self-acceptance. The resolution. 

LOGLINE

An anxious teen, through a butterfly metaphor, builds up the courage to come out to the world.
